Jerusalem, Israel Chapter Upcoming Support Groups & Upcoming Events
We are very excited to announce the launch of the Jerusalem Chapter of the IBD Support Foundation on November 3, 2009 at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel. This marks the start of international collaboration for the IBD Support Foundation in providing comprehensive medical care for IBD patients and their families. Dr. Dan Turner, Head of the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit at Shaare Zedek will launch this initiative with the assistance of Drs. Yair Einat and Udi Danker. We will also be working together on a research project to assess the effectiveness and overall impact that our support groups have on the quality of life of IBD patients and their families.

A new year of support workshops for youth coping with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) was launched at an exciting, empowering opening event at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem.
Patients of chronic disease are overwhelmed at times by the feeling that the disease --its symptoms and treatment -- is the center of attention rather than them. This situation becomes even more delicate in the case of youth, coping with a chronic condition in parallel to navigating the stormy waters of the teen years. In order to demonstrate that they are not alone, to empower them, and to minimize the impact of the disease on their everyday life, a series of support workshops has been established at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center. These workshops are geared towards teens with IBD (Crohn's and ulcerative colitis) as well as towards their parents. These workshops are entirely unique in Israel, providing an essential response to a need that had been hitherto unmet.
The workshop series, currently commencing its second year of activity, is organized by the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, headed by Dr. Dan Turner and the IBD Support Foundation, Los Angeles, headed by Ms. Marci Reiss.
