Top 10 Most Easily Digested Healthy Foods for IBD Patients

  1. Fish, any, but especially oily fish like salmon, swordfish, and tuna that contain a lot of essential fatty acids
  2. White meat chicken or other lean proteins
  3. Rice, especially white rice that contains a lot of soluble fiber( brown rice or wild rice can be irritating to an inflamed bowel)
  4. Very well cooked oatmeal or cream of rice, bread made with finely milled oat flour
  5. Baked sweet potato
  6. Well cooked butternut squash
  7. Papaya and mango
  8. Cantaloupe
  9. Cooked apples, such as applesauce or baked apple without skin
  10. Well cooked asparagus tips and carrots

Erin Feldman, RD, CSP has been providing nutrition counseling for patients at the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Cedars Sinai Medical Center for the past seven years.  Erin has spoken at several IBD related educational conferences and support groups in the Los Angeles area and is the author of the nutrition chapter in the 'Pocket Guide to Inflammatory Bowel Disease'.  She enjoys working with IBD patients of all ages in order to help them achieve optimal health through proper nutrition.
